Avatar is now the second highest-grossing movie of all time.

In its sixth weekend of release, Avatar earned an additional $36 million this weekend, a meager 16-percent drop made James Cameron’s sci-fi spectacle become the second highest-grossing movie of all time. However, the new releases unsuccessfully made a significant mark, with the apocalyptic film “Legion” performing strongest with an estimated $18.2 million and a second-place showing.

The earnings have now climbed to $552.8 million domestically and surpassing “The Dark Knight’s” $533.3 million domestic haul.

Worldwide, Avatar is also the second-Top grossing movie of all time at $1.8 billion, sprawling “Titanic” by less than $7 million.

In contrast, none of the new releases is likely to have much of an afterlife. “Legion” may have marched in second place, but it brought in a gloomy C- from exit pollster Cinema score, that could mean there is unlikely to be much positive tittle-tattle for this movie.

Avatar’s final act’s throw-down between the forest and the humans is awfully unsurprising, and not as slick as the pure jungle scenes, but it is still epic. The animation is way further than anything Transformers II offered up earlier last year, and the explosions are predominantly exploded.
For the first fifteen minutes, you’ll say, “Is this all there is?” But assuage your way into the movie, and you will be blown away. James Cameron has delivered a special effects powerhouse that is actually an extended acid trip in the jungle in which no wonder it has taken the second top placer -grossing movie of all time.
