Speculations have raged for weeks… Who is taking Simon Cowell’s seat on the popular Fox talent show ‘American Idol’? When Simon Cowell announced that he’ll be leaving “American Idol’ after this season, many ‘Idol’ fans got to thinking about possible replacements.
A big name being linked about is that of Tommy Mottola, former head of Sony Music Entertainment. A source with knowledge said there is “some truth” to reports that Mottola is being courted to replace the mercurial “Idol” judge. That source said Cowell is interested in bringing Mottola on board for his new talent show as well.
Mottola is the ex-husband of singer Mariah Carey and renowned in the industry for having a good judgment for major talent. It’s been broadly reported that he is behind the success of several successful acts including Jennifer Lopez and Destiny’s Child. He is presently married to Thalia, a Mexican pop star.
A few celebrities have served as guest judges this season on “Idol” throughout the audition round, counting singer Katy Perry. Katy Perry told MTV that she enjoyed the gig that saw her dishing out some harsh criticism and crossing swords with permanent judge Kara DioGuardi. Perry also said she would ditch her career and take on ‘Idol” if offered a permanent job as host.
In a separate interview on Cowell, he jokingly suggested Seacrest to replace him, whom Cowellhas also good-naturedly tangled. The Fox executives said they’re not going to rush to find Cowell’s replacement.

I loved the final 5 Idol group medley last night. It was moving to see Aaron Kelly removed but I believe the other contestants were better hence he needed to go!
