The words of the famous actor James Franco. After being present and interacting with his fans over twitter now says he is DID NOT QUIT but just make his twitter account to private. Politico interviewed the goblin and said “Social media is over. Still up there. Going down. You heard it here first.”

James began tweeting even before he co-hosted one of the most prestige awarding nights for actors and actresses in February with Anne Hathaway. He explained about the setup of his twitter account that It is his twitter, and he can do whatever he wants.
Just a note since the actor become tweeting, he got a little spat with Bruce Vilanch, after the latter criticized Franco’s performance at the Acadamy Awards - but eventually reconciled.
James had an interview with David Letterman’s show - The Late Show and admitted that he had “low energy” on the Oscars stage?
I am not sure about this move by Franco, social media will never die in my humble opinion, it might evolve and improve but not die. As long as there are interactions and buzz within the online space, Social Media wont die.
