There are different methods on how you could do you keyword research. You could have a documented list on how to do it step by step or you can imitate other’s method that would they “claim” worked.
But on this post, I am going to show you a simple step on how to determine Top Paying Keywords and generate or formulate “seed keywords” for your optimization process. This seed keyword would likely be your main keyword and be targeted and ranked for soon with your posts.
A simple step on how to get keywords first is to visit other popular sites. One example is Ebay. The site has an Ebay Pulse page wherein you can see top searches made. Another is Yahoo! Buzz Index - They also have this top 20 popular searches that you can skim and get keyword ideas as well. Not but not the least is Lycos. Yes people, Lycos is still alive and kicking. Lycos also offers their top 50 Searches. On quick tip is that the larger the font, the more searches was made for that particular keyword.
Got Keyword Ideas , Now what?
You should do a keyword research on this and determine if they are on the Top Paying Keywords list. Normally Top paying keywords are within the niche of Insurance, Health, Credit, FInance, Business and the like. Expect as well that they have a huge competition and can literally eat your post/site alive. So target long tail (I will try to post about long tail keywords some time soon).
One way to find out if the keyword you got is worth the effort is to check on Google’s Free Keyword Tool. Click on show CPC and you would get the estimated cost per click of the keyword. For me, $1 and up is my Go signal in targeting a keyword. So go ahead and try to target those keywords you have on your list and see how much you could earn if you would optimize those on your pages.
